Mobile Devices

Contents

The Helpdesk fully supports all WPI IT provided mobile devices. We offer limited support (server settings and minimal configuration) for personal mobile devices to connect to WPI email and WPI's wireless internet. There is no guarantee that your device will connect to our network or email.

To connect your mobile device to WPI's wireless network, please see the WPI Network Operations' wireless networking site.

Common Smartphones

These are the correct settings for Exchange mail on an iPhone.
WPI IT has recognized the need for separate instructions for setting up email on different Smartphone devices. Each type of device has its own unique setup process and as a result, the instructions for email setup are provided by type for your convenience. Please remember that WPI IT does not provide full support for personal devices. To view instructions for your specific device, please visit one of the following pages:

Email Configuration Settings

In this section you will find the appropriate server settings for communicating with WPI's email services on devices not listed previously. These settings will also work for tablets or slates (iPad, Xoom, etc.). Please note that the WPI Helpdesk does not provide direct support for other mobile devices unless provided by the WPI IT department. The following information is provided as a courtesy, and we will not be able to provide additional support if you are unable to get one of these connections to work.

Exchange

If your device is capable of connecting to an Exchange server, please use these settings. An Exchange connection is preferable and will be most convenient for you. If your device is capable, this type of connection can provide all of the convenient features that come with an Exchange email account.

  • Username: Your WPI Email Address
  • Password: Your Windows Password
  • Exchange Server: exchange.wpi.edu
  • Domain: ADMIN (should be in all-caps)
  • SSL: Yes

IMAP

If your device is not capable of making an Exchange server connection, an IMAP connection is preferred. An IMAP connection will give you access to any folders you may have created on your Exchange account. IMAP connections also leave the original email on the server for access from another device.

Incoming Settings:

  • Username: Your WPI Username
  • Password: Your Windows Password
  • IMAP Server: exchange.wpi.edu
  • Port: 993
  • Security Type: SSL
  • IMAP path prefix: Blank (may not be on all devices)

Outgoing Settings:

  • SMTP Server: submission.wpi.edu
  • Port: 465
  • Security Type: TLS
  • Require Sign-in?: Yes (may not be on all devices)
  • Username: Your WPI Username
  • Password: Your Windows Password

POP3

A POP3 connection is not recommended and should only be used if neither an Exchange connection nor an IMAP connection will work on your device. POP3 does not provide the same level of security as an IMAP or Exchange connection and will remove your emails from the server.

Incoming Settings:

  • Username: Your WPI Username
  • Password: Your Windows Password
  • POP3 Server: exchange.wpi.edu
  • Port: 995
  • Security Type: SSL

Outgoing Settings:

  • SMTP Server: submission.wpi.edu
  • Port: 587
  • Security Type: TLS
  • Require Sign-in?: Yes (may not be on all devices)
  • Username: Your WPI Username
  • Password: Your Windows Password
