Using PCAP to Record Student Projects

Recording your Project, part 1:

Download the installer for Windows here.

https://web.wpi.edu/academics/ATC/Media/pcap-pc17.zip

Install Echo360 Personal Capture (aka PCAP)

Echo Log In

Open the program.

Click on Log in in the upper right of the interface.

Start Recording.

First it asks for your school email, and then routes you through to the school's authentication system.

CAS.

Once logged in, you can go back to the software on your pc. The first thing you're going to do is set the storage location for your files.

Click on the gear in the upper right of the interface.

Set storage.

In the storage location field, you can create a folder to store the raw media files you produce in the recording process.

I always create a folder on my desktop - that way my raw files are easy to find. (You're going to need to find them later.)

Click done. Now you're ready to record.

Storage settings.

You'll notice that sources are on the left. You can choose camera or screen or both. Audio is a must. If you test your mic, the volume meter should fluctuate.

Sources.

Once you've chosen your sources, you can click Record. **** You may want to record a test video of about a minute first ****

The program gives you a 5 second countdown and then minimizes. At this point it is capturing your audio and video.

When you're done recording, go back to PCAP and click Stop Recording.

Your recording will appear in the Recordings list.

My recordings.

To access your recordings, find the storage location folder. You will see the media file inside a folder with a unique identifier number.

You can now upload your recordings to either Echo360 or Ensemble, the media server.

An alternative to using Echo360 PCAP is using the Echo360 mobile app.

Information about that can be found here.

See the Sharing your Project wiki here for info on how to share your project.
