FerriNaphth is a fluorescent sensor that was developed by Randy Jackson. FerriNapth is non-emissive in non-aqueous solution. Upon the addition of Fe3+ or Cu2+, the catechol is oxidized to the corresponding quinone. Hydrolysis of the imine isomer of the oxidized product releases aminonaphthalimide which is fluorescent.
