15 Minute Writing

From Deskins Group Resources

Writing does not have to occur in long blocks, meaning you don't need 2 hours of uninterrupted time to make significant progress on your writing project (whether an MQP, IQP, thesis, dissertation, or journal article). You can actually make good progress in 15 minutes (or 20 or 25 or 30 minutes). Spending time daily writing in short stretches can lead over time to the completion of your writing project. Below are some ideas on what you could do in 15 minutes (or even better 30 minutes).

  • Update or create a figure
  • Update or create a table
  • Add references to your document
  • Revise the outline of your document
  • Revise key questions you will answer
  • Revise a paragraph
  • Draft a new paragraph
  • Decide what next step is necessary to advance the project
