ArgenCast-1 is a Cast-type photocage that was developed by Hannah Mbatia with the assistance of Daniel Kennedy. The receptor is a NS4 polythioether ligand. ArgenCast-1 binds Ag+ in mixed organic/aqueous solution. The photolysis of ArgenCast-1 results in the introduction of an electron withdrawing carbonyl group para to the aniline that decreases the electron density on nitrogen atom and therefore the Ag+ affinity; however, the decrease is modest because of the stability of the sulfur-silver bonds.
