FerriCasts are Cast-type photocages that were developed by Daniel Kennedy with the assistance of Daniel Brown. The different analogues of FerriCast-1 were screened to correlate photolysis quantum yield with structural features. Cast Models also have been examined to delineate the contributions of different substituents on the photochemistry. The studies suggest that Cast quantum yields are low because of a resonance interaction between the aci-nitro intermediate and the aniline nitrogen atom in the metal ion receptors.
